Return Windows, Withdrawal Rights and Card Disputes

Three different clocks decide whether money comes back: the retailer's 30-day window, the EU's 14-day statutory withdrawal and the card dispute window of 60-120 days.

The retailer's own return window defaults to 30 days and extends to 60-90 days for holiday purchases. It normally requires the item unused with tags attached, so the clock and the condition both matter — a tag-free, clearly used item can be refused even inside the window.

EU distance-selling buyers hold a separate statutory right: a 14-day withdrawal period under Directive 2011/83/EU. Once the seller is notified, the refund is due within 14 days, less any proven deduction for goods already used.

The card dispute is the last resort. Chargeback windows run about 60-120 days from the transaction date, depending on the card scheme and the reason code — long after the retailer window has closed, which is why it exists for failures, not for change of mind.

Day 14: statutory withdrawal. Day 30: retailer window. Day 60-120: card dispute — diary all three at shipping.

On narrow screens, swipe or scroll the plate sideways.

Which clock to use: the retailer window for ordinary returns, the statutory withdrawal for an EU change-of-mind inside 14 days, and the chargeback when the seller will not refund. Diary all three dates the day the order ships.

Proof decides disputes. Keep the order confirmation, a screenshot of the discount line, photos of the item and packaging on arrival, tracking numbers and all correspondence — the cheapest price is wasted if the refund fails for lack of evidence.

Sizing errors are the most preventable return. Men's EU 42 = UK 8 = US 9; women's EU 38 = UK 5 = US 7; Japanese sizing is foot length in centimetres (JP 27.0 ≈ EU 42). Two minutes with a size chart protects the discount better than any code — and keeps the stacking work from the companion pages intact.
